*About the use of the term "disability"
At Keio University, we place extreme value in the "social model of disability" which understands that disability is a symptom of society, not of the individuals affected, and that it is our duty to remove these social barriers as described in the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Act to Eliminate Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities.
When we use the term "disability," we are doing so while conscious of the fact that the impairments lie within social and environmental systems.
