What is the Office for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion About Us

Keio University established the Office for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion on April 1, 2018, toward building an environment conducive to staff, faculty members, and students of all ages cooperating and coexisting in a spirit of mutual respect and acceptance for one another's individual personalities and various values, and to facilitate prompt responses to challenges relating to welcoming diversity. This office, which reconsolidates and extensively builds upon the foundations of the Office of Gender Equality and the Barrier Free Committee, is a new organization that aims to spearhead the formation of a cooperative society in Japan through the promotion of projects concerned with work-life balance, barrier-free systems, and diversity.

In addition to fostering diversity, today there is an increased focus on efforts to realize a cooperative society based on social inclusion. In such a society, no one is isolated or excluded, and each individual can realize their potential and will support those around them as equal members of society. As a platform to share and disseminate a wide range of values, the Office for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion will promote institution-wide efforts, from the affiliated schools to the undergraduate faculties and graduate schools, aimed at realizing a cooperative society where people from different backgrounds respect and cooperate with each other as equal members of society regardless of factors such as age, sex, gender, culture, race, beliefs, lifestyle choices, or nationality, and whether or not they have disabilities. It will work towards achieving this while spreading the know-how that Keio University has acquired in its efforts to date.
